Rays of Hope

Sade: Aunty, can I use your powder?

Sade: Aunty, I don’t want to stay with my roommates anymore.

Sade: Aunty, I am gonna kill her.

Aunty! Aunty! Aunty

Met Sade the “ex-bully“. Her imposing stature was one that left her standing in the crowd. You can’t but notice her good command of English and her phonetic voice.

She was always a regular customer in the volunteers’ room with her numerous complaints and demands. Students weren’t allowed to come into our rooms without due permission but hers was an exception.

Fastward to last day of camp – Sade had been taken on as a project by almost every volunteer, she rightly deserved the award for “most improved”. I was able to see a little girl who had been through a lot in life (for a girl that age) open up to change (not APC). We are indeed hopeful which our name implies of a colourful and radiant future.

At the end of the program, the fence she had built around her had been brought down gradually. Maybe not all but a greater part of it. Waiting for the next kind teacher, friend, family to shatter these walls completely. At the end of the camp, she was able to relate with her roommates and friends, control her anger outbursts, learn teamwork…The list is endless.

Sade would definitely have a story to tell in a few years and “Hope Foundation” would be a part of her story. So also will each and every child that Hope Foundation has been able to prune so far – knowing that in them lies an indomitable force ready to be explored. We look forward to that day when Hope Foundation becomes a part of the life of every individual as a propelling force. You can be a part of this, we all can be a part of this!

The Eagles’ HOPE Charity Foundation (hereafter referred to as H.O.P.E) is the not-for-profit and community development arm of the Covenant University Alumni Association. Over the past three years, we have been able to engage over a thousand volunteers and scores of corporate partners to reach over 7,000 teenagers with our award-winning leadership development programs; while our other programs/ projects have impacted another 4,000 unique individuals.

The C.I.T.Y (Catch & Inspire Them Young) Summer Leadership Programme 2015 is one of such programs of the foundation described above. The program is set to create an environment where leadership and life building values can be instilled into young teenagers (ages 13-18) in a creative, impactful and fun-filled way.

The foremost objective of the CITY program is to develop the leadership potential of these teenagers by training and mentoring them on principles and values that would help them excel in life. To this end, several impactful programs, training, games, projects, and excursions have been lined up to ensure that we develop the leadership potential of the students in an atmosphere of creativity, fun, and inspiration.

The summer school will span from August 5, 2015, to August 15, 2015, in 4 locations, namely, Lagos, Ota, Ibadan, and Abuja for 1000 participants and the aid of 250 well sort after facilitators, volunteers, and trainers.
