With that being said, here are ways you can use social media to promote your personal brand:

  1. Have an objective: have a unique objective for why you would like to promote your personal brand. You need to know ‘why’, so other things can flow from it. When you get your ‘why’ in order, the rest is easy to do. Do you want to get more customers for your services, or do you want to build your brand? Etc.
  2. Find you niche: you need to clearly define and know your niche. When you have found your niche, it gets easier to find your target audience and know where they are online.
  3. Have a good bio: make sure that on every social media platform you are on; your bio reflects who you are and what you do, and how you can be of help to others. Your bio is very important because it is one of the most frequently checked aspects on social media; people want to know who you are and how you can be of help.
  4. Use a good picture: don’t use just any kind of picture, use a picture that reflects who you are and what you do. Use a quality picture that can showcase you as a professional or as someone who has an interest in a special kind of field for instance.
  5. Focus on platforms that your target audience are on: you don’t have to be on all social media platforms, you just need to focus on the platforms your target audience are. Before you can know this, you must have done an extensive research on who your target audience is and where you can find them online.
  6. Leverage Facebook Groups: you can also go online and search for Facebook groups in your niche. For instance, if you are a writer, by just using a search keyword of ‘writers’ on Facebook, you will find lots of writing groups in the group tab, where you can help others, as well as learn more. The reason why Facebook Groups are only listed here is that some of us already have other channels like Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram; but we don’t leverage the Facebook Group aspect.
  7. Have a consistent theme: make your feed welcoming and have a consistent theme on each social media pages. When we visit social media pages that have consistent themes, we feel welcomed and we think about the amount of work the owner of the account has put into the feed.
  8. Engage: social media is not for post and dump, you also need to engage with your audience. Like their pictures, help them answer their questions, comment on their photos, and so on.
  9. Be helpful, give people reason to follow you: you also need to give people a reason to follow you. People want to know how you can be of help, and why they need to follow your account. And so, share tips, resources, and freebies that can help your target audience.
  10. Consistent look on different platforms: you also need to make sure that when people visit your different social media profiles, it gives them a consistent feel and they still know you are the one they are following or interacting with across the different social media channels.
