If you just started learning how to wear heels, start small. For instance, you can start with 2 inches or 3 inches heels, and also start with wearing a wedge. Then as you advance in knowing how to wear heels, you can then start wearing other types of heels. When I started learning how to wear heels, I started small; I started wearing wedges, then block heels; now I can wear heels with few inches. And so, if you just started wearing heels, don’t just go straight to wearing 6-inch heels; you can start by learning to walk in a block heeled shoe.
Walk from heel to toe
To walk comfortably in heels, you need to walk putting your heels down first before you put your toes down. A conscious effort is required to walk with your heel on the ground before your toe. Putting your heels before your toe makes walking with heels easier and makes you look poised.
Wear the right size of shoe
Even though you are not wearing heels, ensure that you always buy the right size of shoe for yourself. If you don’t wear the right size of shoes, you won’t be able to walk comfortably in the shoes.
Take small steps
Rather than walking too fast when you don’t know how to walk in heels; take small steps and pace yourself well. High Heeled shoes are not meant for taking longer strides but for slower movements. Don’t make the rookie mistake of walking fast or taking longer strides with high heeled shoes. Taking longer strides increases your chances of tripping due to imbalance.
Walk as if you are walking in a straight line
You can also walk as if you are walking in a straight line, it helps too. Imagining walking in a straight line helps you pull off the shoe game like a pro. You don’t have to be as precise as the models but walking in a straight line shows you are in control of your movement.
Maintain a good posture
Ensure that you are maintaining a good posture as you walk. Walk straight, keep your back up, relax your body, etc. A number of people have developed postural issues from wearing high heeled shoes. If you notice you are having difficulty standing after a while in your heels make sure you sit down and allow your feet to relax.
Don’t forget to practice walking around in heels if you want to learn more about walking in heels. In addition, if you are going to be wearing heels for an event, try to practice walking in the shoes before that event so you will be familiar with walking in the shoes as well as have an idea of how to walk better in it.
You can also take breaks when walking in heels. Depending on the occasion, you can sit down for some time or at intervals, rather than walking around or standing in heels for so long.
